war of head vs. heart

I love to bake. I always felt like there is no fun in following recipes. Instead I like just trying things out for yourself, which is exactly what I do. Last year, I decided I wanted to leave to work with fondant- this decision was made after many many viewings of Ace of Cakes and numerous wedding shows about cakes- luckly the experiment turned out well. I made everyone that was there that day their own cake. This is how crazy about baking I am.

Day 19- A Talent of Yours.

My mother used to have to literally hid my tap shoes from me when I was six so I wouldn’t ruin the wooden floors, a year later I stood outside a studio waiting for my class when I saw the older girls floating on the tips of their tops with the most perfect shinny satin blush pink shoes. From that moment on, my mother lost me to ballet. I was obsessed. I was never built to play sports, but here was something my bony frame was made for. I don’t feel like I have a lot of talents that are describable to most. I can do small things, like memorize lyrics after one play of a CD, or read a 100 page book in under an hour. But I’ve always felt like my real talent was ballet. I can do a lot with pointe shoes. My favorite was all the Russian pointe turns I learned in 9th grade. Whenever shit went bad in high school at my house, all I had to do was put on my satin shoes, and then all I could think of my curve of my back, the arch of my foot, the speed of my turns. There’s a spot of title in my old house that has wear marks dented in it because I used to practice turns for hours on end. My parents never knew about it because I moved the table to hide it. Dance and me have always had a semi-secret relationship. But, It’s always been my escape.
